Summer forest school is a wonderful experience where the children explore, play, and imagine outdoors for the entire morning in mixed age groups. Parents and caregivers bring their children to meet their teachers at the entrance of Ft. Tryon park at Margaret Corbin Circle. From there they will head to open places with climbing trees, rocks, logs, sticks, and leaves, all ripe for the children to create the worlds of their imaginations, look at nature, and be physically active. Once arrived, we start our mornings greeting the earth, sun, trees and each other in a movement circle.
Mid-morning the teachers and children sit for snack: fresh fruits and vegetables, sandwiches, and tea. They finish their last bits of play and work and sing goodbye to each other before taking a “hike” to meet their parents and caregivers where they were dropped off.
